IBM SafeGuarded Copy infos: Details
IBM SGC was available only on DS8000. It is available since end 2021 on many models of the IBM FlashSystem storage family and on SVC.
IBM SGC requires the use of the IBM CSM (Copy Services Manager) product (installed on a Windows, Linux or AIX Operating System).
The IMMUTABLE cloned disks created with IBM SGC cannot be accessed, corrupted, deleted, stopped …
The ONLY way to see its content (or to use those disks) is to Clone again those Cloned disks !
‘Flash for i’ :
Eliminates the need to use the IBM Copy Services Manager (CSM) component.
Triggers the Safe-Guarded Copies from the IBM i partition.
As with standard FlashCopies, performs a QUIESCE before each Instant Copy (which ensures that active data in memory is copied to storage).
